WOMEN INSPIREDWomeninspiredA LOVE FOR SUNFLOWERSby Kristen Kucharski Photos by Mike Catuara

Page 19

Introducing Kathy Mulhall creative entrepreneur AURORA–As long as Kathy can remember she has loved Sunflowers because they are happy flowers that are bright, cheery, and inviting; representing adoration, loyalty, longev-ity and good luck because they can grow tall and strong, even in adverse conditions. In the midst of the most inimical conditions, during the pan-demic of 2020, she discovered a love and talent for canvas painting and proceeded to open Sunflower Shanty Market in 2021, now operating at The Rustic Fox in Carol Stream and North Aurora, the Red Hive Market in Batavia, and 35:35 Makers Collective in Sycamore. She sells sunflower thematic handmade canvases, coasters, trivets, framed art, beaded pens, signature candles, painted vases/jars, and more! Kathy is excited about the Fall trends that are focusing on warmth and comfort, highlighting coffee colored and moss green/foliage hues, as well as blue, deep plum, and mari-gold. She says velvets in rich brown hues and Eucalyptus will be popular, as well as natural elements. Since sun-flowers are a transitional flower, they can brighten any area now through Thanksgiving. Kathy personally loves pairing them with lavender, or with blue flowers like Bluebells or Blue Daisy; and adds lemons to brighten any space. Kathy loves to visit Heap’s Giant Pumpkin Farm in Minooka and Keller’s Farmstand in Oswego each season, enjoys dining at Traverso’s in Naperville, and supports local mar-kets throughout the western suburbs.Photos by Mike CatuaraWOMEN INSPIREDGlancer Magazine • SEPTEMBER 2024 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 19

40 • WESTERN SUBURBS • SEPTEMBER 2024 • Glancer Magazine Remember You Will Die by Eden Robbins Acclaimed Chicago Author's "Genre-Defying Masterpiece" Will Be Celebrated on the Book Release Date–October 22 CHICAGO–Eden is a third-generation Chicagoan who grew up in the city and only briefly left for college before returning for the next 18 years. She has been very active in the Chicago literary community for dec-ades, including hosting the Tuesday Funk live lit series for 15 years. Eden Robins will celebrate the launch of Remember You Will Die at her favorite local indie, Women & Children First, on the book’s release date (October 22). The city of Chicago has also served as a huge inspiration for her work at large; her widely acclaimed debut novel—When Franny Stands Up, a Chicago Reader Best Book of 2022—was set in Chicago in the 1950s, and several of the most consequential characters in Re-member You Will Die live in Chicago as well. Remember You Will Die is a groundbreaking, genre-bending epic written entirely in obituaries about the messy tapestry of human history and the threads that connect us all, set against the desperate investigation of an AI mother grappling with the death of her human daughter. “Can the absence of words tell a story? Like a pattern in lace, the holes as important as the threads?” Remember You Will Die spans continents, centuries, and planets in an unexpected but gratifying blend of historical fiction, science fiction, and speculative fiction. The novel is an unflinching story told through cen-turies of obituaries that reveal a planet slowly dying, a world increasingly disconnected, and human lives entwined through blood and love and the consequences of their actions. With intricate multigenerational links reminiscent of How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu, the surprising wit and levity of Kevin Wilson, and a tangled web of mystery like The 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton, Remember You Will Die centers a diverse mix of human experiences in a soul-stirring exploration of who we are and who we have the potential to be. The 27-acre oceanfront resort reopens its doors with the debut of two new culinary venues: Lahaina Noon, a vibrant oceanfront res-taurant, and Pineapple Moon, a relaxed poolside bar. These of-ferings, conceptualized by TableOne Hospitality under the direction of renowned restaurateur Patric Yumul, promise to el-evate the culinary landscape of Ka'anapali Beach. Following a 10-month period dedicated to supporting Lahaina res-idents affected by the 2023 wildfires, Royal Lahaina Resort & Bun-galows is once again open, welcoming guests to rediscover the wonders of Ka'anapali. Beyond its new restaurant and bar, the re-sort is home to 333 guest rooms, 127 newly enhanced bungalows, two oceanfront pools and a range of wellness amenities and cul-tural activities - all paired with renewed hope for a prosperous La-haina full of new beginnings. "There is something so magical about Maui. It was the place where I kicked off my career with Michael (Mina) and it has always held a special place in my heart. The TableOne team and I are in-credibly honored and excited to be able to be part of the next chapter of Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows in bringing both La-haina Noon and Pineapple Moon to life in a commitment to serve the community and visitors with grace and aloha," said Patric Yumul, CEO of TableOne Hospitality. The menu, a celebration of Maui's rich agricul-tural bounty, presents a refined dining experience artfully crafted to delight the senses. Each plate reflects a commitment to pur-veyors and artisans with a shared pursuit of sustainability and ex-cellence. Tomorrow's Vows Today: Wedding Trends You Can't Miss in 2025 Weddings are timeless celebrations of love, but the way we cele-brate them evolves with each passing year. For brides-to-be, wed-ding planners, and engaged couples in West Suburban Chicago, staying updated with the latest trends is essential to creating a memorable and modern nuptial experience. This special guide feature shares 2025's most exciting wedding trends, offering in-sights that will help you design the wedding of your dreams. The Wedding Industry in 2025 The wedding industry is constantly changing, influenced by socie-tal shifts, technological advancements, and evolving consumer preferences. By 2025, we're seeing major transformations in how weddings are planned and executed. First, there's a noticeable shift towards more intimate and person-alized celebrations. Couples are focusing on creating unique, meaningful experiences rather than grandiose displays. This trend is partly driven by the desire for deeper connections with guests and the increasing emphasis on quality over quantity. Second, health and safety remain top priorities. While the pan-demic may feel like a distant memory by 2025, its impact lingers in practices like enhanced hygiene measures and flexible planning options. Many venues now offer hybrid packages that accommo-date both in-person and virtual attendees. Lastly, inclusivity and diversity are more prominent than ever. Weddings in 2025 reflect a broader range of cultural traditions, gender identities, and family structures. This inclusivity is not just a trend but a celebration of love in all its forms. Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Weddings Sustainability is no longer a niche concern; it has become a cen-tral theme in wedding planning. Couples are increasingly aware of their environmental footprint and are seeking ways to make their weddings more eco-friendly. One popular trend is choosing sustainable venues. Outdoor set-tings like botanical gardens, farms, and vineyards are gaining pop-ularity. These venues often have a lower environmental impact and provide natural beauty that reduces the need for additional décor. Sustainable décor choices are also on the rise. Couples are opting for reusable or biodegradable materials, such as wooden signage, recycled paper invitations, and potted plants instead of cut flowers. These choices not only reduce waste but also add a unique and earthy charm to the celebrations.WEDDING TRENDS TO WATCH FOR IN 202564 • WESTERN SUBURBS • SEPTEMBER 2024 • Glancer Magazine

Page 65

Additionally, sustainable catering is becoming a priority. Farm-to-table menus that highlight local, organic produce are in high de-mand. Couples are also considering plant-based options to lessen their environmental impact. These delicious and eco-conscious choices ensure that guests enjoy both the food and the planet-friendly ethos behind it. Technological Advancements in Weddings Technology is transforming weddings in ways we couldn't have imagined a few years ago. By 2025, several tech trends are mak-ing weddings more interactive and inclusive. Virtual reality (VR) is revolutionizing the way couples plan their weddings. From touring venues to trying on dresses, VR offers im-mersive experiences that save time and effort. Imagine being able to "walk" through your wedding venue from the comfort of your home! Live streaming has become a staple, allowing couples to share their special day with loved ones who can't attend in person. High-quality streaming services ensure that virtual guests feel like they're part of the celebration, no matter where they are in the world. Digital invitations are replacing traditional paper invites. These eco-friendly alternatives are not only stylish but also convenient. Digital platforms offer interactive features like RSVP tracking and event reminders, making the planning process smoother for everyone involved. Fashion and Style Trends for Brides and Grooms Wedding fashion is always evolving, and 2025 brings some excit-ing new trends for brides and grooms who want to make a state-ment. For brides, minimalist and timeless designs are taking center stage. Clean lines, elegant fabrics, and subtle embellishments create a sophisticated look. Many brides are opting for versatile dresses that can be easily altered for different parts of the day, such as detachable skirts or sleeves. Grooms are not left behind in the fashion revolution. Bold and per-sonalized suits are gaining popularity. Think unconventional colors, unique textures, and custom tailoring that reflects the groom's personality. Accessories like pocket squares, cufflinks, and statement shoes add a touch of flair. Sustainable fashion is also making waves. Ethical designers and eco-friendly fabrics are becoming key considerations for couples. Vintage and second-hand dresses are cherished for their history and charm, offering a unique and sustainable option for the big day. Personalization and Unique Experiences at Weddings Personalization is the hallmark of 2025 weddings. Couples are going the extra mile to infuse their personalities and love stories into every aspect of their celebration. Customized vows are a beautiful way to make the ceremony deeply personal. Some couples are even incorporating elements from their favorite books, movies, or songs into their vows, adding a unique touch that resonates with them and their guests. Interactive guest experiences are becoming a must-have. From DIY cocktail stations to photo booths with personalized props, cou-ples are finding creative ways to engage their guests. These inter-active elements not only entertain but also create lasting memories. Unique entertainment options are on the rise. Live painters captur-ing the ceremony in real-time, magicians, and even aerial per-formers are making appearances at weddings. These unexpected touches ensure that the celebration is unforgettable. The Influence of Social Media on Wedding Planning Social media continues to play a significant role in wedding plan-ning. Platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok are treasure troves of inspiration and ideas. Hashtag weddings are a trend that shows no signs of slowing down. Couples create unique hashtags for their weddings, encour-aging guests to share their photos and memories online. This not only creates a sense of community but also provides the couple with a digital album of candid moments. Social media influencers and bloggers are becoming trusted sources for wedding planning advice. Their real-life experiences and tips can help couples make informed decisions. Collaborating with influencers for shoutouts or giveaways can also boost excite-ment and engagement around the wedding. Live updates and stories during the wedding day keep virtual guests and followers engaged. Couples are hiring social media co-ordinators to manage live posts, ensuring that every special mo-ment is shared in real-time. 2025 Wedding Trend Overview Weddings in 2025 are all about blending tradition with innovation. Whether you're drawn to eco-friendly practices or the latest tech-nology, the key is to choose trends that resonate with you and your partner. Remember, your wedding should be a reflection of your unique love story. Don't be afraid to break away from conventions and make it truly your own. Whether you're planning an intimate gath-ering or a grand celebration, the trends of 2025 offer endless pos-sibilities to create a day that's as special as your love. Feel inspired? Share your favorite trends in the comments below, or suggest any we may have missed. Warehouse 55 The Two-Story Vintage and Antique-Inspired Multi-Marketplace is Celebrating 5 Years this Year AURORA–Warehouse 55 will celebrate its fifth anniversary this fall in downtown Aurora. The two-story vintage and an-tique showroom will host a special anniversary celebration to mark the occasion from 10am-5pm on Saturday, September 21. Located at 55 S. Lake St. in Aurora, Warehouse 55 opened to the public in September 2019. Owner Mark Allen stumbled upon the historic building and quickly shared his dream with fellow industry peer Mindy Schloss, manager of Warehouse 55. Allen and Schloss had both achieved success in the world of antique markets as well as running their own stores. Schloss said they had wondered what they would do next in the vin-tage realm. Whether it was happenstance or destiny, Schloss said, “It was the right time, and the right place.” The duo quickly got to work securing vendors that they knew from the business, and started with 30 vendors on the first floor. They later opened up the second floor adding additional vendors, and Schloss said they have consistently maintained about 50 vendors. KID STUFFDANCING IN ST. CHARLES 3rd Street Dance ST. CHARLES–In the heart of historic downtown St. Charles, 3rd Street Dance stands as a testament to the vision of owner and di-rector, Alice Williams. Williams grew up in St. Charles, and 27 years ago, embarked on a mission to create a non-competitive dance stu-dio that inspires students to believe in themselves, spread joy and build lifelong friendships. It’s a home where, as she says, “Kids can be kids, have fun, and find their best friend.” At 3rd Street Dance, students embrace the beauty of dance without worrying about external pressures. As the only local St. Charles studio affiliated with the national organization More Than Just Great Dancing®, they takes pride in providing a quality curriculum and a safe and nurturing environment for its young dancers to grow and flourish. Dance has the power to bring about positive change in a com-munity. 3rd Street Dance give back, organizing charity events and fundraisers, using passion for dance to raise awareness for local causes. These experiences teach young dancers the value of em-pathy, compassion, and the joy of helping others. The studio’s non-competitive approach to dance has allowed count-less children to discover the joy of movement and creativity without the fear of judgment. As Williams continues to champion the belief that “kids should be kids for as long as humanly possible,” the 3rd Street Dance legacy lives on by offering a variety of classes focus ing on fun, learning, and growth.
