This is West DuPage Cabinets and Granite’s area of specialty. If you’re looking for a new kitchen or bathroom design, West DuPage Cabinets & Granite’s talented design team will visit your home for a consultation, take measurements and look at the lifestyle components of the home. Does your family cook often? Do you like to entertain? How many people are usually in your kitchen at once? Once they have all of the information needed, the team will create a design to present to you, the homeowner, upon a visit to the Batavia showroom. Homeowners enjoy a stress-free process with this local one-stop home designer, as this top-rated Batavia busi-ness has everything needed to complete a kitchen or bath-room design– including labor for each project. Additionally, West DuPage Cabinets and Granite extends their dis-counts at the supply houses to their clients (specifically for appliances and plumbing fixtures). The entire process is coordinated with your designer who stays with you through the entire project, leaving the homeowners completely sat-isfied throughout. INDUSTRY TRENDS Catherine noted that the industry is always changing with future trends leaning towards larger islands, coffee bars and entertainment spaces, including a wine refrigerator in the kitchen and more features to accommodate larger groups. LEADING THE WAY The company has received many awards and accolades through the years including Best of the Best in Kitchen and Bath Remodeling 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, in addition to Glancer Magazine’s ‘Best of the Best’ Kitchen Designer for Kane County in 2021. One of Catherine’s most cherished projects was when her team designed and built a first floor master suite for a client whose husband had MS and could no longer walk up the stairs. “The improved quality of both of their lives was a gift to see!” shared Catherine. WRAPPED IN LOVE NAPERVILLE–As the holidays approach, and a tumultuous year comes to an end with more uncertainty looming into 2021, more people than ever are finding themselves in need of assistance due to the health and economic impact of COVID-19. We are grateful for the many charities and pro-grams that are stepping-up ef-forts to increase their giving during this time. However, there are plenty of indi-vidual residents that are interested in identifying and finding specific ways to help affected families in their communities. This is where neighborhood grassroots programs, like Naperville’s Wrapped in Love (WIL) organization, can step in and connect those who want to help with those who need it. WIL began in December 2013 as just a one-time blanket drive for the Chicagoland homeless to be distributed on Christmas day, but because of that experience, WIL Founder, Susie Barrto, felt she was being called to help those in need all year round. “I had been a single mom for seven years and had just remarried,” says Susie. “My children were getting older and not needing me as much. I knew there were so many people that needed the “mothering” that I didn’t feel done wanting to give.” She garnered 501c3 status for WIL and began to share her vision on her established Facebook page, making it clear if people dropped off their do-nations, she would personally transport them to where they were most needed. Susie keeps in contact with the local shelters as well as individual requests from the community for assistance. On any one day, there may be a call-out for a family whose home and posses-sions were lost in a fire, a single mom trying to make ends meet, or individuals losing their jobs and homes. The needs are posted on the Wrapped in Love Facebook site and answered by the giving circle of followers. “WIL was created to be a bridge between those in need and those that want to give,” says Susie. “There are over 4,000 people that follow our WIL page, and the generosity from people who want to be part of something good is overwhelming. Donations are made almost on a daily basis.” WIL also continues to care for those living in the streets, creating “loaded backpacks” filled with essential items and handing them out regularly throughout the year. To join Wrapped in Love’s giving circle, be sure to follow them on Facebook and check the site often to see how you can help members of our com-munity with their special needs. www.facebook.com/Wrapped-In-Love- WIL ABOUT THE WRITER Mindy Kyle is passionate about helping people discover what brings them joy and to live a full, healthy and happy life. She has her Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from DePaul University and is a veteran of Chi-cago’s theater and commercial world as well as a graduate of the Second City Improv School. COOKING WITH LOVE The holidays are upon us which usually means plenty of eating. Like most, I get stuck in a rut with menu items that I prepare nightly for dinner, share at parties, or plan for every holiday; so, I was ready to freshen up my palette with some new ideas! I gathered some girlfriends and decided to make it a fun GNO, maintaining the holiday theme of eat, drink, and be merry. Our head chef and guide for the evening was Tom Moskos who owns The Art of Good Eating in Lisle. His primary business is cat-ering so keep in mind - you don’t even have to cook if you don’t want to - he will do all the work for you - whether cooking in your kitchen to serve your guests or bringing the meal already prepared for you to serve. We opted to learn the art of cooking and hand selected a tapas style menu that allowed for snacking along the way through our three-hour session. Tom additionally offered a variety of drinks to pur-chase on sight to add a little extra spirit to the evening. With music in the background, we staged ourselves around the beautiful commercial style kitchen that offered the comforts of home. Donning our aprons, we began to chop, spice, and mix. For the foundation of all our appetizers we made delicious garlic butter Crostinis. As they toasted in the oven, we prepared roasted vege-tables highlighted with Eggplant and created a spread. The flavors were like nothing we had ever tasted before - out of this world. Tom taught us how to heat our pans and be generous with our sea-sonings. We cooked with red wine (with a few sips in between) and additionally delighted in a sausage ap-petizer, as well as a savory shrimp dish. It was personal, it was fun, it was enter-taining, and most importantly - it was de-licious!!! Overview A personal Chicago chef service avail-able in the western suburbs, offering pri-vate dining parties at their dining venue or in the convenience of your home, local cooking classes, full service wed-ding catering, and catering of any special events. HOLIDAY STYLEGENEVA CHRISTMAS WALK, DECEMBER 3 GENEVA–Yuletide cheer fills the winter air in 2021 when Geneva prepares for its annual Christmas Walk sponsored by Little Barn Baby, December 3. A spe-cial tradition held the first Friday in December, pre-sented by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce with the support of the City of Geneva. Friday evening begins with Graham’s Chocolates First Candy Cane of the season being presented with great fanfare. In honor of Graham’s founder, Bob Un-tiedt, the parade is being named Bob’s Candy Cane Parade. Bob Untiedt’s greatest loves besides his family, were music and confections. So, what better way to marry these two loves than have a drum and bugle led parade of more than 100 loyal bell ringing customers to present the first candy cane of the season to the Mayor. In remembrance of Bob as Geneva’s own Choco-late Man, Grahams is proud to continue with this long-standing tradition. This will be followed by the arrival of Santa Lucia, the Swedish symbol of the season, who will offer Swedish cookies to merry-makers. A TREE-lighful Celebration happens when the Christ-mas Tree on the Courthouse lawn is lit, a light show explodes and then young and young at heart will wait with anticipation as Santa Claus arrives atop the Geneva History Museum. Santa will then welcome visits from excited children in his NEW Geneva home. Santa’s previous mobile home on James Street is being retired, as it needed great repair to become safe for 2021. Salvageable pieces were donated to organizations that build homes for those in need. We thank Junkluggers for their assistance with this. Geneva Visitor Center, 10 S. Third Street will be transformed by Hogan Design & Construction into a Winter Wonderland for visits from excited children. Visits with Santa are by reservation only, which can be reserved at genevachamber.com beginning November 1. Amongst the twinkling lights and fresh greenery lined streets, chestnuts are roasting over open fires, carolers are filling the night air with seasonal favorites, a traditional candy cane pull is close by, a recreation of the Guinness Record breaking candy cane will be available for all to enjoy and a live nativity scene is taking place. Dazzling window displays brimming with gift ideas invite shoppers to stroll through shops as merchants serve tra-ditional holiday refreshments. A Geneva Christmas is one not to be missed. FITNESSHEALTH + WELLNESSDR. ALEESHA FISCHER What is Chiropractic? Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on the spine and other joints of the body, and their connection to the nervous system. The word chiropractic means “to be done by hand.” Chiropractors use adjustments to restore joint function and support the nervous system. Accidents, falls, and postural stress can cause subluxations, which are misaligned verte-brae within the spine from its normal position. Subluxations put pressure on the nerve roots and can decrease function of nerve signals between the body and the brain. Left unresolved, they can lead to chronic con-ditions. The weight of a dime on a spinal nerve can reduce transmission by as much as 60% (Chang Ha Suh, PhD. Spinal Biomechanics Expert). Chiropractic Care at Naperville Chiropractic and Massage also includes soft-tissue therapies, massage, lifestyle recommendations, fitness coach-ing and nutritional advice. UNIQUE IN SUBURBIASPORTSMAN’S PARK NAPERVILLE–Nine Olympic, modern-age sports de-buted at the Athens’ games in 1896. This past summer, 33 sports, 46 disciplines and 339 events were held at the Tokyo games. Times have changed … and sports have evolved. There are now three Olympic shooting categories - pistol, rifle and shot-gun. Trapshooting, a shotgun discipline, has surged in popularity. And Kayle Browning, of the United States, took home the Silver Medal in the women’s trapshooting final (you go, Girl!). Sportsman’s Park, a 27-acre property given to the City of Naperville in the Caroline Martin-Mitchell bequest, is a local gem for trapshooting (and nature!) enthusiasts. The Naperville Sportsman’s Club collaborates with the Naperville Park District to maintain and operate this year-round amenity. For trapshooting beginners, the NPD hosts several fun-damental classes each year. Participants have the opportunity to learn range etiquette, proper gun safety and handling techniques. And NSC hosts tournaments, leagues and events throughout the year. Fun fact - the facility uses steel shot and biodegradable discs, as two of its many sus-tainable efforts! Outside of friendly competition, trapshooting supports a myriad of health and social benefits. Physical bal-ance (posture & abs!), fine motor skills, discipline/re-sponsibility, mental processing (mathematics, concentration & problem solving) and stress relief ... just to name a few! Due to the sports’ inclusivity, trap-shooting is currently one of the fastest-growing high school sports in the country too. Just as Olympic sports evolve and interdependence is culti-vated, perspectives can emerge. During non-trapshooting hours, the park is open to the public.
