DuPage_June19 backup_Layout 1 5 29 2019 7 14 AM Page 10 fabulous SUMMER FAMILY TRADITIONS The Hauge Family of Glen Ellyn Chicago When Chad and Alicia made the decision to open a business together they knew it would involve their whole family in a major life decision Although they live in Logan Square they wanted the suburbs for flexibility They are two of the three co owners at Common Good Cocktail House in Glen Ellyn and love bringing their daughter Genepy 2 and Beulah 3 months to work with them weekly The Hauges care deeply about processing their whole lives with each other They love the idea of their marriage their family their community and their work being one entity they are nourishing all together They immersed themselves in the Glen Ellyn community by hiring local artists to design and embellish their space and thrive on Javi s Burritos for energy during long work days and host morning work sessions at Blackberry Market Summer fun includes the Taste of Glen Ellyn and exploring the Morton Arboretum They also take grand family trips such as last summer s month in France driving along the C te d Azur and stopping in Menton to eat fresh seafood and pasta at a restaurant on the beach as the sun was setting The Byers Family of Aurora The foundation of the Byers family is helping others We are more about what can we do with our kids to show them it is not just adults that can make a difference Jennifer says We try to show them that every little bit helps in some way even if it is just extending a smile to someone Jennifer Kent Katie 11 and Karly 9 have been a part of Naperville s Safety Town for the past seven years volunteering with the Naperville Junior Woman s Club programming while Jennifer also serves as the Events and Fundraising Coordinator Additionally the family volunteers with Bike Bald the 3 11 Project the K9 Enrichment Initiative and the Naperville Marathon By day Jennifer runs her own floral consulting business Flowers By Jen and Kent works for the federal government Because balancing work life and home life can be challenging family dinners at Braconi s in Naperville or Basil s in Aurora helps keep them all connected when the kids aren t at gymnastics archery or Girl Scouts In the summertime they enjoy area farmers markets fireworks at RibFest riding bikes on local trails visiting water parks and relaxing with neighbors in their cul dusac 10 WESTERN SUBURBS MAY 2019 Glancer Magazine

DuPage_June19 backup_Layout 1 5 29 2019 7 16 AM Page 11 families SUMMER FAMILY TRADITIONS by Kristen Kucharski Photos by Mike Mantucca The Cashman Family of Clarendon Hills John is the President of Major Lindsey Africa a global legal search firm and Christi is a partner at Winston Strawn LLP a large law firm in Chicago As 16 year residents of Clarendon Hills John and Christi and their five kids Amanda 19 Tyler 18 Julia 16 Haley 14 and Allison 10 are actively involved in Notre Dame Parish volunteering at the church s food pantry teaching religious education classes serving on various PTA committees and John is on the board of The First Tee of Greater Chicago Although their kids are also involved in many local sports clubs and organizations Julia and Haley find time to join Christi as members of the National Charity League and the entire family loves working as shopping assistants in the food pantry at HCS Family Services in Hinsdale I want my children to understand and appreciate that we are part of a community and it is our responsibility to help others when we can Christi says The Cashman family feels blessed to live in such an amazing community and enjoys summers at Daisy Days in downtown Clarendon Hills around Father s Day each year The Little Family of Sugar Grove In the summer the Little Family Noah Dara Madi 14 and Jack 10 enjoy Kane County Cougars games The Sugar Grove Corn Boil shows at the Paramount Theater and traveling Favorite vacations include kayaking with the dolphins off Hilton Head Island They live by the motto Food Family and Fitness and begin weekday mornings 5am at CrossFit Sugar Grove for family workouts to help maintain their sanity for busy weeks that require constant planning communication sharing household duties and a strong support network of friends Noah is an elementary principal at Krug Elementary in the East Aurora School District and is on the Board of Directors for the Kaneland Youth Football League and sits on the Kaneland Finance Advisory Committee Additionally he is a member of the Montgomery Rotary Club Dara is Assistant Vice President for Research at Northern Illinois University Outside of NIU Dara also sits on the Kaneland Citizen Advisory Committee and is very involved in her international professional society currently co chairing for the society s education committee Madi stays active cheering at Kaneland High School and Jack spends his time with KYFL Football and Kaneland Cagers Basketball The Littles enjoy quality family time at the Turf Room in North Aurora Glancer Magazine JUNE 2019 WESTERN SUBURBS 11
