Kelli & Kailey Pictured at Willow Cottage – Photos SubmittedGlancer Magazine • JUNE 2024 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 13Summer Getaway Unveiled in Delavan, Wisconsin Picture this: Delavan Lake, where the vibes are laid-back, the sun's rays dance on the water, and memories are made to last a lifetime. Meet Kelli and Kailey, the dynamic mother-daughter duo behind The Cottages on Delevan Lake consisting of two freshly spruced-up cottages that scream classic lake charm with a modern twist, and other rehab properties. Their two cozy rental cottages are just a stone's throw from each other on prime spots along the lake. Each exudes character with unique touches and char-acteristics to help make you and your guests enjoy the "lake life". Kelli's been there, done that – from a bustling career in buying to settling down full-time by Delavan Lake after countless summers spent there with her family. Remodeling homes became her passion project, leading to the creation of these lakeside gems that radiate tranquility and comfort. Kailey, the brains behind the bookings and the lifeblood of the cottages, juggles her gig at an E-commerce agency with a love for country tunes, jet-setting adventures, and a knack for snagging the best accommodations. When the weekend hits, she's out on the water, soaking up the sun, tunes blaring, and good times rolling with family and friends. So, join this dynamic duo for a summer escapade at Delavan Lake, where every splash brings a new story and every sunset whispers of endless fun. Lake Life: A Tale of Family, Tradition, and Lakeside Hospitality For Kelli, the call of the lake resonates deep in her family history, tracing back to the late 1800s when her grandpar-ents acquired the Willow Point cottage (pictured in blue) – a cherished retreat that witnessed love stories unfold and memories etched in time. The legacy continued as Kelli and her husband embarked on a transformative journey in 2016, breathing new life into the worn-down cottage, ignit-ing a spark that kindled their passion for crafting lakeside escapes. Kailey's wanderlust spirit and knack for creating unforgetta-ble experiences found a home within the walls of the ren-ovated cottage, sparking the idea to share their lakeside paradise with fellow adventurers. What began as a whimsi-cal idea in 2018 blossomed into a flourishing venture, with each property exuding unique charm and storytelling ele-ments that set them apart in the realm of Lake Delavan rentals. Diving into the selection process, Kelli and Kai-ley seek out the "ugly ducklings" – homes yearning for revival and rejuvenation, each pos-sessing a distinct allure in their location, histori-cal significance, or layout. As the duo breathes new life into these homes, a narrative unfolds within each space, adorned with memorabilia and artifacts that pay homage to the rich history of the properties and the enchanting allure of Delavan Lake. Beyond the mere confines of hospitality, Kelli and Kailey strive to create sustainable havens that echo their eco-conscious values, sourcing sec-ond-hand treasures and upcycled decor to infuse each home with character and sustainability at its core. Their commitment to offering seamless, memorable experiences extends to every guest, from milestone celebrations to celebrity en-counters and commercial shoots that add a touch of magic to each stay. Navigating the dynamic real estate and rental landscape as a mother-daughter duo presents its own set of challenges, yet the bond they share fuels their dedication to standing out in a compet-itive market. Embracing innovation, personalized service, and community partnerships, they carve a path that transcends mere accommodation, of-fering guests a tapestry of experiences that cele-brate the essence of lakeside living. For families seeking a slice of lakeside bliss, Kelli and Kailey offer a simple piece of advice: linger longer, explore off-season wonders, and immerse yourself in the tapestry of experiences awaiting at their lakeside abodes. With each stay, a story unfolds, echoing the harmony of tradition, hospi-tality, and the timeless allure of Lake Delavan. Just For Fun: Get to Know Kelli & Kailey in their Own Words We asked this dynamic real estate duo a few fun questions to help our readers get to know them...here’s what they shared: What’s your favorite part about living near a lake, and how do you spend your downtime? There is something magical about living near the lake, it gives a feeling of tranquility and com-munity. Everyone, either visiting for the weekend or a local, love the area! In our downtime, we love being out on our boat, spending an evening with friends at the Delavan Lake Yacht Club or Inn Be-tween, or visiting our favorite small business and local farmers markets. Can you share a funny or heartwarming story from one of your remodeling projects? When we were renovating our Indian Trail cot-tage in September of 2018 we had to pull up all the flooring and relevel the home. When pulling up the flooring in the kitchen we found an old, unground ice box. They would use this as their refrigerator to keep their food cold. It always blows my mind when doing renovations to dis-cover how people used to live and how far we’ve come. Being able to bring these old homes back to life (and into the 21st century) brings me great joy when I know most people see old homes and usually tear them down, instead I look at these cottages as a puzzle I need to solve. If you could host a day on the lake with any three people, living or deceased, who would they be and why? Kelli: I would love to host my late grandmother, late father because they have all lived in our Willow point cottage. I think they would appreciate how we kept the integrity and character of the cottage. Also I think they would be impressed with how the area has changed since they were growing up on the lake. Kailey: I would love to host Andy Cohen. He seems like a pretty busy guy who would like a tranquil, lake-side retreat. Do you have a personal motto or a quote that inspires you? One mans trash is another womans treasure. If your life were a movie or TV show, what genre would it be, and who would play you? Any show on Magnolia Network. My husband and I would be Chip and Joanne for sure. What’s the one thing you can’t live without when you’re working on a project? My talented team of local contractors. When they say it takes a village (or a small town like Delavan) it really does when completing these projects. I am lucky enough to have a husband who does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to the renovations and build outs. Also we always work with a talented carpenter, Erik Folkers, amazing designer, Andy Thone and talented friend with great taste Peggy Graves. Without my crew I could not do these proj-ects on my own! by Mindy Kyle, Photos SubmittedA Pittie Pool Party by Randi Moxi FEATURING KEEPSAKE PHOTOS OF YESTERYEAR  Randi Moxi had a busy life as a former entrepreneur, marketing director, brand strategist and event producer. She also served as Mrs. Illinois in 2014 and in 2017 she was elevated to Pageant Director. While in her five-year tenure as Director, she helped Illinois get to top 5 in all age di-visions and bring home the International crown four times. At age 44, Randi shifted from helping make others’ dreams come true to blessing children and animals through the gift of story. During the Covid pandemic, Randi was bedridden with a repetitive in-jury. While being forced to focus on her health, she and her husband rescued a pit bull type dog whose rehabilitation and decompression time was mostly spent with Randi in bed. “We healed together and wrote a book,” says Randi. “She’s the star of the story.” They now own five pit bull mix fur children. Although pit bulls are superior in intelligence, strength and loyalty, they are the most bullied breed of dog. A Pittie Pool Party is the story of a girl who rescues a pit bull type dog and establishes an understanding of how judging any person or creature before knowing them as an indi-vidual can cause harm to them and us. The book embodies the incred-ible power of friendship, inclusivity, acceptance and animal rescue. “The best part of the book for the kids is always the dog,” says Randi. “Seeing a dog be judged in the story engages their empathy and is re-latable to them if they have ever felt judged themselves.” Along with authoring her books, Randi is a motivational speaker and a featured school enrichment assembly presenter. A portion of proceeds from all speaking engagements and book sales benefit animal rescue. A Pittie Pool Party is available online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. One of the most exhilarating ways to soak in the city's skyline and vibrant atmosphere is by embarking on a journey with Chi-Town Boat Charters on Lake Michigan. With beverages in hand and excitement in the air, we set sail, ready to explore Chicago from a unique perspective. Our aquatic adventure included views of the Shedd Aquarium, Northerly Island Park, Buckingham Fountain, and Navy Pier. From the comfort of our boat, we admired the iconic Ferris wheel and the bustling surrounding cultural at-mosphere. Captain Kevin shared fascinating tid-bits about the Skyline’s history, adding depth to our experience. Eager to capture the beauty of our surroundings, we couldn’t resist snapping countless photos, and our captain was the perfect photographer! Next, it was time to cruise the famous Chicago Playpen, where we had full access to the giant lily pad on board for our personal swimming entertain-ment! CHARLES–Take in the beauty of the Fox Valley aboard an historic paddlewheel riverboat – an iconic attraction in St. Charles for more than 75 years. This recreational activity that has spanned generations began in 1945 when the late Chet Anderson bought his first paddlewheel river-boat to charter cruises up and down the Fox River. Traveling from the era of Mark Twain through a green corridor of scenic beauty, each riverboat trip offers something completely different. Some-times you might see an eagle or a turtle, other times an osprey or a family of foxes. This completely unique way to explore the city and the beautiful Fox River is affordable and memorable for all ages during both public and private events. On the public cruises, the riverboats tell stories from the past. While tak-ing in the scenery, guests will learn about the Pottawatomi tribe that roamed the banks of the shore prior to St. Charles settlement and sev-eral historic landmarks. More fun is had when you hear the tales of ice-houses and underground railroads as well as community lore regarding Al Capone’s infamous “hideaway.” These beautiful boats and their homegrown story are something that St. Charles can truly be proud of, and rest assured, the Andersons’ legacy and the generations of family memories these boats carry is in good hands with the dedicated staff of the St. Charles Park District at the helm. Cicadas on Parade in Downtown Glen Ellyn GLEN ELLYN–Glen Ellyn is embracing the summer of the cicada. Now on display through the end of the summer, twenty-five hand painted cicada sculptures are lining the streets in flowerpots, windows and trees throughout Downtown Glen Ellyn. These 18-inch cicada sculptures are 8 lbs. each and made of plaster with copper legs. Each sculpture is hand painted by local artist and storefront owners. When the idea of Cicadas on Parade came to Downtown Glen Ellyn, every-one thought, “What? No”, but the idea soon caught on. Think of it as the 1999 Cows on Parade art exhibit, but bugs! Each cicada is drastically differ-ent and creative. For example, the String Theory Yarn Co. knitted an outfit, The Bookstore of Glen Ellyn modge podged book pages and the Glen Ellyn Sweet Shoppe covered theirs with candy wrappers. A few other examples, Glen Ellyn Public Library hand painted favorite youth authors, Gather & Col-lect found vintage items to attach to theirs (pictured above) and Alla Moda Boutique’s cicada has several sets of interchangeable shoes to display.Dawn Smith, Executive Director of the Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn, was first approached of the idea by local shop owner Julie Spiller of Gather & Collect. “I first surveyed the other store owners of interest. I was surprised by the popularity! I initially had a dozen stores interested, which grew to 25, and a week later had a dozen more on a waiting list”, replied Smith. This event is part of Cicada Parade-a, a large-scale collaborative art project organized by The Insect Asylum. This project celebrates Illinois’ 17-year and 13-year cicada broods. The Insect Asylum, located at 2870 N Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago, has a mission to foster appreciation in animals and the nat-ural world through a unique, immersive, and inclusive educational experi-ence. Cicadas on Parade is brought to you by the Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn, with special thanks to the many amazing sponsors that make events like this possible. Thank you to Maureen McCarthy @Properties and the Village of Glen Ellyn, the program’s Benefactor Sponsors. KID STUFFDANCING IN ST. CHARLES 3rd Street Dance ST. CHARLES–In the heart of historic downtown St. Charles, 3rd Street Dance stands as a testament to the vision of owner and di-rector, Alice Williams. Williams grew up in St. Charles, and 27 years ago, embarked on a mission to create a non-competitive dance stu-dio that inspires students to believe in themselves, spread joy and build lifelong friendships. It’s a home where, as she says, “Kids can be kids, have fun, and find their best friend.” At 3rd Street Dance, students embrace the beauty of dance without worrying about external pressures. As the only local St. Charles studio affiliated with the national organization More Than Just Great Dancing®, they takes pride in providing a quality curriculum and a safe and nurturing environment for its young dancers to grow and flourish. Dance has the power to bring about positive change in a com-munity. 3rd Street Dance give back, organizing charity events and fundraisers, using passion for dance to raise awareness for local causes. These experiences teach young dancers the value of em-pathy, compassion, and the joy of helping others. The studio’s non-competitive approach to dance has allowed count-less children to discover the joy of movement and creativity without the fear of judgment. As Williams continues to champion the belief that “kids should be kids for as long as humanly possible,” the 3rd Street Dance legacy lives on by offering a variety of classes focus ing on fun, learning, and growth.
