Glancer Magazine • JULY 2024 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 13Meet Pam Bartlett NAPERVILLE–Pam had spent more than 25 years working in a business environment with experience in marketing, sales, data-base management, and social event management when she took the leap of faith to open Pinot’s Palette in downtown Naper-ville, putting her passion into the paint-and-sip franchise. Pam’s pursuit has paid off earning her a number of awards, in-cluding Glancer Magazine’s Reader's Choice Awards and sev-eral Pinot's Palette’s Golden Brush Awards. She takes personal pride in giving back to the community by hosting and donating to fundraiser events, such as the Naperville Junior Women’s Club Fundraiser this past May; participating as a Naperville Riverwalk Commissioner; a Downtown Naperville Alliance Board Member; and taking active roles with the Naperville Chamber Of Com-merce through Teamwork and the Women in Business Commit-tee. As an Event Extraordinaire, she is continually planning a fun-filled calendar of unique opportunities to explore your creative side, while relaxing with wine! Summer events include Girls Night’s Out, Summer Sip & Save, Little Brushes Summer Camp, Mobile Painting, Black Light Classes, Pour Your Own Epoxy / Charcuterie Boards, Wine and Jazz, Mobile Painting, Team Building, Date Night Sessions, and Cubist Portrait - where you can paint your pet, paint your partner, paint yourself, and the list goes on and on! What inspired you to open a paint studio? I loved to paint as a hobby and when I was looking for a new career that wasn’t a corporate job I came across paint and sip. I took a class at a restaurant in downtown Naperville, sat back from the painting that I completed in two hours, and never looked back. I knew in my heart that there were people out there who would love to paint and sip for fun and relaxation. What is the best part of your painting events? Painting is therapy! How have your life experiences influenced your artistic style? Your artistic style is an extension of yourself. Trust your intu-ition and creative vision. Check out the Open Studio Event and find your personal passion! What art media do you personally love the most? Acrylic painting, of course. It dries fast and is very easy to work with. Love our Acrylic Pour Classes! Which famous artist, living or deceased, do you wish would visit Pinot Palette and what do you think they would select to paint or create? Van Gogh, he’s one of the well-known artists whose paintings are replicated a lot in our industry. I think he would choose to paint our rendition of Starry Night Over The Rohne. (cont.) For more Q & A fun with Pam, visit our website. Meet Noelle Wold ST. CHARLES/KIRKLAND–Noelle dreamed of running a family business to create a legacy and have something fulfilling after retiring as a St. Charles Police Detective. She began her jour-ney serving the community ten years ago as a 911 dispatcher with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office and became a patrol deputy shortly thereafter. In 2019, she transferred to St. Charles, immersing herself in caring for the citizens beyond her hometown of Kirkland. Aspiring to open a brick and mortar candy store some day, she hopes to sell nostalgic candies that emote childhood memories. In the meantime, Noelle operates Sweet Swirl Candy, a mobile candy cart and fully stocked shelves at Rustic Fox in North Au-rora. As an Event Extraordinaire, Noelle had a busy June at The Warehouse on Park, Margaritas & Makers; Genoa Days; Rustic Fox Farmers Market; and Hometown Handmade Market. Her next big event will be at the Kirkland 4th of July Celebration from July 3rd to 6th. Look for the huge cotton candy flag! What are some of your fun flavors and products? We offer mobile snack carts such as a cotton candy cart, pop-corn cart, ice cream cart, and mini pancake cart. We also offer online ordering for all of our packaged candy at www.sweetswirl-candy.com. Our glitter beverage bombs are a fun and dazzling way to en-hance any drink. Simply drop one into your beverage, and watch as it releases a burst of color and edible glitter, creating a magi-cal, sparkling effect. Our cotton candy cakes are a unique and whimsical treat, per-fect for any celebration. Made entirely of gluten-free cotton candy, these cakes come in a variety of flavors and are layered to create a colorful, sweet masterpiece that everyone can enjoy. Recently, we started serving fresh spun cotton candy at events with toppings like edible glitter, sprinkles, bubble gum, and crushed candy. What is your personal favorite product or service? My personal favorite product is our glitter beverage bombs, I love to watch them make my drink sparkle! I also love the freeze-dried caramel M&M's. My most recent favorite flavor of cotton candy is the pineapple pepper, a sweet and spicy combo that makes your mouth water! What words of encouragement can you share to inspire other women who are considering opening a business? You can do it! Have a good support system, take care of your-self, and remain focused. Remember, 'The only limit to our real-ization of tomorrow is our doubts of today.' Believe in yourself and your vision. (cont.) For more Q & A fun with Noelle, visit our website. CHARLES–Take in the beauty of the Fox Valley aboard an historic paddlewheel riverboat – an iconic attraction in St. Charles for more than 75 years. This recreational activity that has spanned generations began in 1945 when the late Chet Anderson bought his first paddlewheel river-boat to charter cruises up and down the Fox River. Traveling from the era of Mark Twain through a green corridor of scenic beauty, each riverboat trip offers something completely different. Some-times you might see an eagle or a turtle, other times an osprey or a family of foxes. This completely unique way to explore the city and the beautiful Fox River is affordable and memorable for all ages during both public and private events. On the public cruises, the riverboats tell stories from the past. While tak-ing in the scenery, guests will learn about the Pottawatomi tribe that roamed the banks of the shore prior to St. Charles settlement and sev-eral historic landmarks. More fun is had when you hear the tales of ice-houses and underground railroads as well as community lore regarding Al Capone’s infamous “hideaway.” These beautiful boats and their homegrown story are something that St. Charles can truly be proud of, and rest assured, the Andersons’ legacy and the generations of family memories these boats carry is in good hands with the dedicated staff of the St. Charles Park District at the helm. AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR House of Honor by Award-Winning Wheaton Author Margaret Philbrick #1 Amazon, Historical Italian Fiction Barnes & Noble Top Indie Fiction Pick of 2024 Two Italian sons, linked by a masterpiece painting, are put to a test of loyalty and honor. At the heart of this gripping tale is Orazio Bordoni, the wayward son of a con-struction magnate, living a reckless life like that of his artistic hero Caravaggio. He finds himself befriended by Nicolo Giotto, the devoted son of a powerful Si-cilian mafia clan, who wants to uphold the honor of his family. As the dark underbelly of the art world and the Vatican expose their true char-acter, Orazio finds himself in a world where his loyalty is tested, honor is at stake, and the boundaries between life and art blur. He and Nicolo discover just how far they're willing to push those boundaries, even if it means sacrificing everything else. House of Honor is a pivotal story that weaves the threads of history, the ruthless allure of the mafia, the enigmatic power of the Vatican, and the timeless bril-liance of Caravaggio. www.amazon.com/House-Honor-Heist-Caravaggios-Nativity summer adventureGlancer Magazine • JULY 2024 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 49

Here’s What I’m Sayin’ by Rick Lochner NAPERVILLE LEADER IS JUST SAYIN’ With his latest book, Here’s What I’m Sayin’: Still More Revelations for Making Leadership a Way of Life, business owner and leadership coach, Rick Lochner, shares several quick-read concepts to lay the foundation for thinking differently and making leadership a way of life. By concisely exploring ideas like “I can explain it to you, but I can’t com-prehend it for you” and “If you don’t like change, you’ll like irrelevance even less,” Lochner gives insight into becoming an effective leader by thinking like a leader. This attitudinal perspective is the key to his vision and strategy. “We believe leaders must think like leaders before they can become leaders,” Lochner says. “While this concept sounds simple and straight-forward, it is anything but in practice.” “In the last five years, we’ve encountered multiple monumental events that challenged leaders at all levels … navigating a global pandemic, global supply chain issues and financial inflation to name but a few,” says Lochner. Through it all, he has continued to write about what it takes to think like a leader. Whether reading these 52 easy-to-digest ideas at random or cover to cover, this book will help you to discover how leaders think differently, why soft skills are more important than ever, what cognitive diversity is and why it matters, and much more. Lochner encourages you to not only read these but to apply them to the context of your own leadership situation. Available on Amazon.com, this book speaks to corporate leaders, en-trepreneurs, non-profit leaders, and anyone who wants to be a leader because it is inspired by real interactions with some of the real people, organizations and agencies across the country whom Lochner has helped over the last three decades. MOM’S Sunshine, Sunsets, and Sailing CHICAGO–Where the Chicago skyline meets the vast expanse of Lake Michigan, lies a unique experience. On a chilly summer night, amidst the gentle lapping of waves and the occasional gust of wind, I was so excited to have my daughter back! We embarked on a #MomsLittleBlackBook journey of discovery with 3rd Coast Cruising, where sailing isn't just about navigation, but also about bonding. Shortly before the sun dipped below the horizon, we stepped aboard a sleek sailboat, greeted by our Skipper Jared and four other members of the 3rd Coast Cruising club. With expertise and enthusiasm, they eagerly welcomed us, igniting our excite-ment to try sailing for the first time! We eagerly listened as our Skipper explained the basics of sail-ing, nautical lingo, departing the dock, hoisting the sails, and un-derstanding wind direction. With beverages in hand and excitement in the air, The sunset was gorgeous from the water as it transformed to city lights twin-kling in the distance. My daughter and I were able to take turns at the helm, gripping the tiller with a mixture of concentration and exhilaration. little black book56 • WESTERN SUBURBS • JULY 2024 • Glancer Magazine

As we steered the boat, a sense of camaraderie washed over us, bridging the gap and strengthen-ing the bond between the experienced sailors and ourselves. It truly took a team! The crew members were incredibly patient, teaching and guiding us, while also ensuring fun and safety. As darkness descended and the stars emerged, we found ourselves immersed in a world of tran-quility and beauty. With only the sound of the wind in the sails, we felt a profound sense of peace, far removed from the hustle and bustle of life. We discovered the power of teamwork and com-munication. We learned to anticipate each other's movements, to communicate effectively, and to navigate the waters with confidence and grace. Each tack and jibe became a testament to our growing knowledge and deep appreciation for our Skipper and his team. As the sailing lesson drew to a close, we most cer-tainly realized the value of trying something new, that is attainable for all ages, and creates mem-ories that will last a lifetime. OVERVIEW 3rd Coast Cruising’s "Learn to Sail" program is de-signed to appeal to sailors of varying skill levels, in-cluding first-timers, potential boat owners, and bareboaters seeking hands-on training. They pro-vide a multitude of sailing packages and flexible sailing times 7 days a week. 3rd Coast Cruising Monroe Harbor 400 E. KID STUFFDANCING IN ST. CHARLES 3rd Street Dance ST. CHARLES–In the heart of historic downtown St. Charles, 3rd Street Dance stands as a testament to the vision of owner and di-rector, Alice Williams. Williams grew up in St. Charles, and 27 years ago, embarked on a mission to create a non-competitive dance stu-dio that inspires students to believe in themselves, spread joy and build lifelong friendships. It’s a home where, as she says, “Kids can be kids, have fun, and find their best friend.” At 3rd Street Dance, students embrace the beauty of dance without worrying about external pressures. As the only local St. Charles studio affiliated with the national organization More Than Just Great Dancing®, they takes pride in providing a quality curriculum and a safe and nurturing environment for its young dancers to grow and flourish. Dance has the power to bring about positive change in a com-munity. 3rd Street Dance give back, organizing charity events and fundraisers, using passion for dance to raise awareness for local causes. These experiences teach young dancers the value of em-pathy, compassion, and the joy of helping others. The studio’s non-competitive approach to dance has allowed count-less children to discover the joy of movement and creativity without the fear of judgment. As Williams continues to champion the belief that “kids should be kids for as long as humanly possible,” the 3rd Street Dance legacy lives on by offering a variety of classes focus ing on fun, learning, and growth.
