Glancer Magazine • SEPTEMBER 2025 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 15 Cindy Shares Fall Trends & More! How would you describe your store’s “style personality” in three words? Wearable fashion sprinkled with some spice. What’s one clothing item or accessory you believe every woman should have in her closet this fall? Colored denim What’s the “it” color or fabric for early fall this year? Chocolate/Merlot/Espresso Which piece in your shop right now makes you think, this is autumn in the suburbs? Waxed/faux leather dresses, pants, vest What’s the most unexpected way to style a fall staple like a denim jacket or chunky sweater? The denim jacket is always an easy go-to, but layering a chunky sweater over a silky slip dress or skirt offers warmth and the look of another outfit. If your store could throw a “fashion party” for the whole town, what would the theme be? Geneva Proud Which fall fashion rule do you secretly think is made to be broken? Wearing white after labor day. Yes, linen or lighter weight fabric should be put on hold, but otherwise wear it and it’s now your Winter white. What’s the boldest piece in your store right now — and how would you style it? While a vest isn’t necessarily “bold” it can be intimidating to style. We have several vests that can be dressed for the office, worn with denim or skirts for weekend and date night. Add a cami, fitted long or short sleeve t-shirt for casual look or elevate with a blouse. What’s the one accessory that can instantly make an outfit September-ready? Suede handbag. -Story by Kristen Kucharski Photos by Mike Catuara COMMUNITY LIVINGPhotos by Mike Catuara

Glancer Magazine • SEPTEMBER 2025 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 17Photos by Mike CatuaraCOMMUNITY LIVINGBubbly Side of Life Meet Vicki Sowa DOWNERS GROVE–Vicki is a sparkling wine enthusiast with one clear mission—proving there’s always a reason to celebrate. Big milestones, small victories, or simply a Tuesday evening—she believes every moment deserves a toast; so grab the fine china and pop the bubbly and celebrate any day of the week, for any reason! Seven years ago, Vicki launched Bubbly Side of Life, blending her background as a teacher with her love for sparkling wine. The space has since become a hub of fun, hosting workshops like charcuterie board styling, flower arranging, and pasta making; classes on bubbly basics, spritzes, and even Mahjong; plus play-ful pairing experiences with oysters, french fries, or macarons. With a private room for birthdays, showers, retirements, and more, Vicki keeps the corks popping—because there’s always a reason to celebrate! Vicki Shares Fall Trends & More! What’s one wine in your shop that has an unexpectedly great story behind it? So many of our sparkling wines have great stories. The goal of the shop is to carry the smaller grower producers, names you may not recognize. (cont.)
18 • WESTERN SUBURBS • SEPTEMBER 2025 • Glancer Magazine Vicki Shares Fall Trends & More! If your wine shop was a person, how would you describe its personality? My Cork Popper Club Members describe Bubbly Side of Life as a vortex of happiness. When you walk in, you will be asked what you're celebrating. And it doesn't matter who is in the shop and what your reason is, they will instantly all be celebrating with you! What’s the quirkiest wine pairing you’ve ever recommended that actually worked? My favorite and most fun is french fries and sparkling wine. Sparkling wine loves fried, salty, fatty foods because sparkling wine has higher acidity which cuts through the fat and the salti-ness of the food enhances the flavor of the bubbly. Which wines do you think capture the feeling of early fall in the suburbs? There is a specific blanc de blanc sparkling wine from CA with notes of toasted nuts and baked apples that will definitely be on the shelf in September. I will also have some new blanc de noirs champagnes with notes of red fruits and a touch of brioche, also perfect for fall. The perfect pairing for your Thanksgiving meal is a sparkling pinot meunier. Pinot meunier is bright and fresh with notes of cranberry and tart cherry. Do you have a go-to “first chilly night” wine? Lambrusco is a sparkling red wine from Italy that can range from dry to sweet. I have both types on the shelves now and this bold red bubbly is ideal for fall weather and the holiday season be-cause of the jammy fruit flavors combined with baking spices. What wine pairs perfectly with football season snacks? Because sparkling wine acts as the perfect palate cleanser and pairs well with salty fatty foods, grabbing a brut bubbly will pair perfectly with any of those football snacks like nachos, chicken wings, pizza, etc. Any hidden-gem wines that work beautifully with apple-based dishes or autumn desserts? The key to pairing any wine with dessert is the wine needs to be sweeter than the dessert. Even if you don't typically like a sweet wine, if your wine isn't even slightly sweeter than your dessert, the wine will taste bitter. If someone walked into your shop and said, “I know nothing about wine, teach me,” what’s the first thing you’d tell them? If they're open to exploring, I invite them to try our flight of the week. Every week, I choose 3 different sparkling wines and serve them side by side at the bar. You can walk in and enjoy this experience any time we're open. This gives me an idea of the type and style of bubbly you might enjoy. Which wine do you think is the most underappreciated? As a category, I'd say cava. Cava is sparkling wine from Spain made in the traditional method (just like they make champagne) with grapes native to Spain. Cava tends to be more fruity and bright with a more affordable price point. -Story by Kristen Kucharski Photos by Mike Catuara COMMUNITY LIVINGPhotos by Mike Catuara

Photos by Mike CatuaraPinot’s Palette Painting Gone Mobile NAPERVILLE–Pinot’s Palette in downtown Naperville just made creativity even more mobile. Thanks to owner and event-extraor-dinaire Pam Bartlett, you can now bring the magic of paint-and-sip parties directly to your doorstep. Whether it’s a birthday bash, cor-porate team-builder, or fundraiser, Pinot’s Palette provides every-thing—supplies, step-by-step instruction from professional artists, and plenty of laughs. With a 30-painter minimum, these pop-up events are energetic, social, and absolutely unforgettable. Pam knows a thing or two about bringing people together. After 25 years in business and event management, she traded spread-sheets for paintbrushes in 2013, following her passion and opening one of the most successful Pinot’s Palette studios in the country. Her leap of faith has earned her national recognition on Franchise Wire, the Best Creative Studio in Glancer Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards, and multiple Golden Brush Awards. But Pam’s impact extends beyond the canvas. She is deeply rooted in Naperville—served six years as a Riverwalk Commissioner, has been on the Executive Team for the Downtown Naperville Alliance Board for over ten years, and is a past member of the Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Committee. She regularly hosts and donates to local fundraisers, believing art should not only in-spire but also give back. “I love meeting new people and seeing the joy and pride on every-one’s faces when they complete their paintings,” Pam says. Now, that joy is only an office, clubhouse, school, or an event venue away! (cont.)COMMUNITY LIVING20 • WESTERN SUBURBS • SEPTEMBER 2025 • Glancer Magazine
Glancer Magazine • SEPTEMBER 2025 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 21COMMUNITY LIVING Pam Shares Some Paint & Sip Fun What’s the very first thing you ever painted, and would you still hang it on a wall today? A painting of a cowboy sitting on a fence, just showing his jeans and boots! Yes, it is hanging in my house today. Which is harder to clean—paint off the tables or red wine out of a white shirt? Paint off tables, it doesn’t come off; we repaint them black every couple of weeks. If your mobile paint-and-sip had a theme song, what would it be and why? "On The Road Again" by Willy Nelson. It's upbeat and happy, like our painting events. What’s the most unusual place you’ve set up your mobile stu-dio so far? At the Fox Valley Mall, we had a holiday pop-up; it was a lot of work! Do you have a dream location you’d love to roll up to with your mobile setup? A winery! How fun would that be! If you could paint with any celebrity, who would it be and what would you sip together? Benson Boone and I’d make a boozy shake with his Moonbean Ice Cream. It’s “Mystical, Magical.” Which painting would best capture the spirit of your home-town? Glancer Magazine • SEPTEMBER 2025 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 33The next day, croissants in hand, we flew to Ven-ice. That evening, a moonlit stroll took us past Doge’s Palace and the Grand Canal. The next day? Pure magic. We took a leisurely boat ride to a Murano Island glass blowing factory and hand-made our very own glass flowers in a once in a life-time workshop. We later drifted through the canals in a gondola ride straight out of a storybook, com-plete with the most wonderful musicians, and a per-sonal serenade that echoed between the historic walls of the Venetian buildings, courtesy of local operator Italy on a Budget Tours. From Venice, we relaxed on an express train to Milan where we curated unique charm bracelets, hand-picking each special pendant at Vigano 1919; then stood in amazement in front of the Milan Ca-thedral; and window-shopped in the glam Quadri-latero della Moda passing Chanel, Prada, Giorgio Armani, and the like. The next morning we joined a hands-on pasta and tiramisu cooking class in the Italian Village with Pasta Pietro, and delighted in the mile long dough creations and delicious out-come! Our final stop was Turin. We picked up a rental car and made our way to Cocconato—a postcard-per-fect Italian hillside village that felt like stepping into a painting. The cozy countryside, the winding roads, the vineyards— the family - yes, we visited the Bava Winery - my cousins, and everything my daughters needed to feel awake with wanderlust, as we tasted and toured our heritage. In just one short week, we danced between lan-guages, ate our weight in pasta, and made mem-ories that none of us will ever forget. We toasted 20+ years of motherhood and sisterhood with Ape-rol Spritzes in hand and hearts full of gratitude. Europe…. you dazzled us! This AlzAuthors honoree delivers an un-flinchingly honest account that will resonate with anyone who has loved through life's most difficult goodbyes. The Love Story They Forgot to Warn You About Fuchs' caregiving story reveals the brutal beauty of staying present when everything familiar slips away. Her memoir cap-tures the essence of "fierce, relentless staying" as she watches someone she loves disappear "memory by memory, like water through fingers." This isn't a sanitized version of love—it's raw, stubborn, and achingly real. The Darlene Fuchs memoir emerged from a promise to her father to show what caregiving actually looks like behind closed doors. Get In The Boat strips away the pretty narra-tives often associated with caring for loved ones, revealing in-stead the "heartbreak so raw it peeled back the soul." Finding Your Community in Shared Experience As an AlzAuthors honoree, Fuchs understands the isolation that comes with caregiving. Her book serves as a lifeline for readers navigating similar journeys—those who've discovered that love sometimes means holding on when letting go would be easier. Get In The Boat is available at local libraries and Amazon.
