Alice Williams Dance Studio Owner, Mother of Five and Community Enthusiast ST. CHARLES–Growing up in St. Charles, Alice fell in love with dance. Rather than just simply teaching dance steps; her teacher demonstrated passion and infused the joy of dancing in each of her students. Alice in turn, grew to love performing and enjoyed seeing the audience's smiles at the end of each show. Those exhilarating moments influenced her own journey to becoming a dance teacher, prompting the opening of 3rd Street Dance & Theatre Academy, whose mission is to in-spire students to believe in themselves, spread joy, and build lifelong friendships. We teach them to become great dancers and amazing kids, without relying on winning tro-phies. Her first performance company was started in 1996 with the intention of giving back to the community. The dancers per-form at local festivals, nursing homes, and other community events. The tweens and teens have been asked to perform in the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival for the last ten years; it's been an incredible opportunity for them to dance in a nationally televised production. Loyal, patient, and dedicated, Alice continues to spend quality time with her five children, ensuring to keep family as the utmost priority in her daily schedule. Additionally, she is committed to the community, in the past assuming roles such as chairing the Delnor Ball and Emerald Evening at St. Patrick's Catholic School and volunteering at the Kane County State's Attorney's Office on the Deferred Prosecution Program Panel from 2001 through 2023 when it was discontinued. Feeling very fortunate to be close to Chicago, she loves supporting the local arts by attending shows at the Paramount Theater in Aurora and Broadway shows in Chicago. Get to know Alice with a fun Q & A here. MOM’S On Top of the World CHICAGO–The far west suburbs of Chicago are known for their picturesque landscapes, and on this particular summer evening, the scene did not disappoint. Blessed to be surrounded by friends who share a passion for adventure, I have now officially checked hot air ballooning off our bucket list with Midwest Bal-looning Adventures. Arriving at the launch site, we were greeted by the sight of the vibrant balloon being prepared for flight. We watched in awe as they used a systematic method of fans to gradually inflate the balloon. The sheer size and beauty of it became more apparent. The colors, a brilliant mix of pinks, yellow, and blue, stood out against the sky. The air was filled with a mix of anticipation and the earthy scent of summer fields. The Midwest Ballooning Ad-ventures team, renowned for their expertise and safety, wel-comed us with a pre-flight briefing. We could hardly contain our excitement as we climbed into the wicker basket with our pilot and 4 other guests. The burners roared to life, and slowly, almost gracefully, the balloon lifted off the ground. As we ascended, the sprawling suburbs of Chicago unfolded be-neath us. The checkerboard of fields, tiny houses, and a mean-dering river created a stunning mosaic. The higher we went, the more breathtaking the view became. little black bookA New Adventure Every Month!featuring30 • WESTERN SUBURBS • AUGUST 2024 • Glancer Magazine

The world below seemed to pause, offering a moment of tranquility and reflection. Everyone seemed equally mesmerized as we watched the sun slowly dip below the horizon, painting the sky in deeper shades of twilight. Our pilot began a descent, testing the winds, but then took us back up again. No one was ready for it to end. Throughout the flight, we shared stories and laughter, reminiscing about past adventures and dreams for the future. As the balloon began its final descent, the ground rose up to meet us and the landing was totally ex-hilarating, adding a touch of thrill to the flight. The flight crew pulled a table, charcuterie, and champagne from the van while welcoming us back with a celebratory toast. We raised our glasses with full hearts, a smile, and high spirits. Absolutely unforgettable—a perfect blend of thrill and serenity. OVERVIEW Discover the wonder with a scenic hot air balloon ride. Daily balloon ride packages include an uplift-ing one-hour balloon flight with breathtaking views above and beyond, a celebratory post-flight toast, refreshments, and a commemorative personalized flight completion certificate. Jack H. Marston II Melanoma Fund and 5K • October 20 GLEN ELLYN–We are in the midst of summer, and it has been great getting out into the sunshine and soaking up some rays. However, I hope you have been using your sunscreen as we still need to be aware of the dangers that lurk in too much sun expo-sure. Besides sunburns and blisters, melanoma is a true villain. The incidence of melanoma is increasing at an alarming rate and is a threat to both adults and children; yet, research toward better treatment and a cure remains under-funded. The Jack H. Marston II Melanoma Fund or-ganization has been working for twenty years to change that. Jack’s Fund was established in 2004 when mela-noma took the life of devoted family man and ded-icated children’s coach, Jack H. Marston II at the age of 47. “I did not want another family to go through what we experienced,” says Sharon Mar-ston, Jack’s widowed wife and the President and Founder of the organization. “When Jack was fight-ing, there was not much support for melanoma pa-tients. We wanted to change that for families fighting this disease and increase public awareness. Metastatic melanoma is a very complex cancer, with early symptoms that are often mistaken for ‘nothing serious’.” Jack was an accomplished athlete and four-time Chicago Marathon participant, so it made sense to fundraise around running. For 21 years, Jack’s Fund has organized the Annual “This Run’s for Jack” 5K Run/Walk at Ackerman Park in Glen Ellyn, where many families attend to memorialize a loved one lost to the disease. This year’s event will take place in the same park on Sunday, Oc-tober 20th at 8 a.m. Jack’s Fund is the official charity for the Chicago, New York and Berlin Marathons and many marathon teams around the world have formed to support the or-ganization’s efforts. “A cou-ple of years ago, Jack’s Berlin Marathon team had a family from Australia and Hong Kong participating in memory of their mother,” says Sharon. Last year the group honored its 20th anniversary of Jack’s Fund with 20 community outreach projects, including donating gallons of sunscreen to lifeguards and pools and setting up sunscreen stations at Ack-erman Park, the splash pad, golf courses and pick-leball courts. If you are runner, the 5K walk/run is a fun race to participate in while giving back to the cause. If you are a marathon runner…or want to be…you can choose to be on one of their marathon teams. If you are not a runner and would still like to support Jack’s Fund, they always need volunteers at the races and other events. www.jacksfund.org ABOUT THE WRITER Mindy Kyle is passionate about helping people discover what brings them joy and to live a full, healthy and happy life. summer adventureFUN ON THE FOX RIVER Paddlewheel Riverboats ST. CHARLES–Take in the beauty of the Fox Valley aboard an historic paddlewheel riverboat – an iconic attraction in St. Charles for more than 75 years. This recreational activity that has spanned generations began in 1945 when the late Chet Anderson bought his first paddlewheel river-boat to charter cruises up and down the Fox River. Traveling from the era of Mark Twain through a green corridor of scenic beauty, each riverboat trip offers something completely different. Some-times you might see an eagle or a turtle, other times an osprey or a family of foxes. This completely unique way to explore the city and the beautiful Fox River is affordable and memorable for all ages during both public and private events. On the public cruises, the riverboats tell stories from the past. While tak-ing in the scenery, guests will learn about the Pottawatomi tribe that roamed the banks of the shore prior to St. Charles settlement and sev-eral historic landmarks. More fun is had when you hear the tales of ice-houses and underground railroads as well as community lore regarding Al Capone’s infamous “hideaway.” These beautiful boats and their homegrown story are something that St. Charles can truly be proud of, and rest assured, the Andersons’ legacy and the generations of family memories these boats carry is in good hands with the dedicated staff of the St. Charles Park District at the helm. Tomorrow's Vows Today: Wedding Trends You Can't Miss in 2025 Weddings are timeless celebrations of love, but the way we cele-brate them evolves with each passing year. For brides-to-be, wed-ding planners, and engaged couples in West Suburban Chicago, staying updated with the latest trends is essential to creating a memorable and modern nuptial experience. This special guide feature shares 2025's most exciting wedding trends, offering in-sights that will help you design the wedding of your dreams. The Wedding Industry in 2025 The wedding industry is constantly changing, influenced by socie-tal shifts, technological advancements, and evolving consumer preferences. By 2025, we're seeing major transformations in how weddings are planned and executed. First, there's a noticeable shift towards more intimate and person-alized celebrations. Couples are focusing on creating unique, meaningful experiences rather than grandiose displays. This trend is partly driven by the desire for deeper connections with guests and the increasing emphasis on quality over quantity. Second, health and safety remain top priorities. While the pan-demic may feel like a distant memory by 2025, its impact lingers in practices like enhanced hygiene measures and flexible planning options. Many venues now offer hybrid packages that accommo-date both in-person and virtual attendees. Lastly, inclusivity and diversity are more prominent than ever. Weddings in 2025 reflect a broader range of cultural traditions, gender identities, and family structures. This inclusivity is not just a trend but a celebration of love in all its forms. Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Weddings Sustainability is no longer a niche concern; it has become a cen-tral theme in wedding planning. Couples are increasingly aware of their environmental footprint and are seeking ways to make their weddings more eco-friendly. One popular trend is choosing sustainable venues. Outdoor set-tings like botanical gardens, farms, and vineyards are gaining pop-ularity. These venues often have a lower environmental impact and provide natural beauty that reduces the need for additional décor. Sustainable décor choices are also on the rise. Couples are opting for reusable or biodegradable materials, such as wooden signage, recycled paper invitations, and potted plants instead of cut flowers. These choices not only reduce waste but also add a unique and earthy charm to the celebrations.WEDDING TRENDS TO WATCH FOR IN 202576 • WESTERN SUBURBS • AUGUST 2024 • Glancer Magazine

Page 77

Additionally, sustainable catering is becoming a priority. Farm-to-table menus that highlight local, organic produce are in high de-mand. Couples are also considering plant-based options to lessen their environmental impact. These delicious and eco-conscious choices ensure that guests enjoy both the food and the planet-friendly ethos behind it. Technological Advancements in Weddings Technology is transforming weddings in ways we couldn't have imagined a few years ago. By 2025, several tech trends are mak-ing weddings more interactive and inclusive. Virtual reality (VR) is revolutionizing the way couples plan their weddings. From touring venues to trying on dresses, VR offers im-mersive experiences that save time and effort. Imagine being able to "walk" through your wedding venue from the comfort of your home! Live streaming has become a staple, allowing couples to share their special day with loved ones who can't attend in person. High-quality streaming services ensure that virtual guests feel like they're part of the celebration, no matter where they are in the world. Digital invitations are replacing traditional paper invites. These eco-friendly alternatives are not only stylish but also convenient. Digital platforms offer interactive features like RSVP tracking and event reminders, making the planning process smoother for everyone involved. Fashion and Style Trends for Brides and Grooms Wedding fashion is always evolving, and 2025 brings some excit-ing new trends for brides and grooms who want to make a state-ment. For brides, minimalist and timeless designs are taking center stage. Clean lines, elegant fabrics, and subtle embellishments create a sophisticated look. Many brides are opting for versatile dresses that can be easily altered for different parts of the day, such as detachable skirts or sleeves. Grooms are not left behind in the fashion revolution. Bold and per-sonalized suits are gaining popularity. Think unconventional colors, unique textures, and custom tailoring that reflects the groom's personality. Accessories like pocket squares, cufflinks, and statement shoes add a touch of flair. Sustainable fashion is also making waves. Ethical designers and eco-friendly fabrics are becoming key considerations for couples. Vintage and second-hand dresses are cherished for their history and charm, offering a unique and sustainable option for the big day. Personalization and Unique Experiences at Weddings Personalization is the hallmark of 2025 weddings. Couples are going the extra mile to infuse their personalities and love stories into every aspect of their celebration. Customized vows are a beautiful way to make the ceremony deeply personal. Some couples are even incorporating elements from their favorite books, movies, or songs into their vows, adding a unique touch that resonates with them and their guests. Interactive guest experiences are becoming a must-have. From DIY cocktail stations to photo booths with personalized props, cou-ples are finding creative ways to engage their guests. These inter-active elements not only entertain but also create lasting memories. Unique entertainment options are on the rise. Live painters captur-ing the ceremony in real-time, magicians, and even aerial per-formers are making appearances at weddings. These unexpected touches ensure that the celebration is unforgettable. The Influence of Social Media on Wedding Planning Social media continues to play a significant role in wedding plan-ning. Platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok are treasure troves of inspiration and ideas. Hashtag weddings are a trend that shows no signs of slowing down. Couples create unique hashtags for their weddings, encour-aging guests to share their photos and memories online. This not only creates a sense of community but also provides the couple with a digital album of candid moments. Social media influencers and bloggers are becoming trusted sources for wedding planning advice. Their real-life experiences and tips can help couples make informed decisions. Collaborating with influencers for shoutouts or giveaways can also boost excite-ment and engagement around the wedding. Live updates and stories during the wedding day keep virtual guests and followers engaged. Couples are hiring social media co-ordinators to manage live posts, ensuring that every special mo-ment is shared in real-time. 2025 Wedding Trend Overview Weddings in 2025 are all about blending tradition with innovation. Whether you're drawn to eco-friendly practices or the latest tech-nology, the key is to choose trends that resonate with you and your partner. Remember, your wedding should be a reflection of your unique love story. Don't be afraid to break away from conventions and make it truly your own. Whether you're planning an intimate gath-ering or a grand celebration, the trends of 2025 offer endless pos-sibilities to create a day that's as special as your love. Feel inspired? Share your favorite trends in the comments below, or suggest any we may have missed.
