LISLE–Autumn is a Lisle resident of 30 years, an active Lisle Township Trustee, mother of three, and self-proclaimed “queen of connecting the dots”, gathering friends and family over her almost-famous gumbo. As the owner of The Collective LHE + Mak-ery, Autumn has worn many hats, and lived a life full of experiences. “I wanted to create a space where you could shop inspired and create in community,” she says. “This was initially inspired by the book The Red Tent. In biblical times, women would go to the red tent for birthing, illness, etc., and the other women would take care of them. Regardless of the strife that may exist outside of the tent, inside you were sisters. When people come in the first time, they never leave a stranger. It's just the energy of the shop that “feels” different from other retail shops.” Her mission is to have you shop inspired and create in community. Autumn’s lifestyle bou-tique features goods that touch all aspects of life with a commitment to woman owned brands, hosting live interactive events, and providing space to small makers and pro-ducts that give back to charitable causes, such as The Sharing Connections. The Collective LHE & Makery is her first brick and mortar business bringing her love of creating experiences, event planning and curating beautiful apparel, home decor and gifts into a creative space. Trending for 2023 are semi precious gemstone earring and beaded jewelry, kimonos, graphic tees, cus-tom and personalized wood trays, the Soit La lumiere candle club, and custom curated gift boxes, with the added bonus of free local delivery. –Kristen Kucharski, Photos by Ruta Drulia Photography COVER STORYGlancer Magazine • AUGUST 2023 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 13Autumn Geist Owner Shares About Her Passion Project that is Loved Locally– The Collective, A Lifestyle Boutique +Makery in Lisle

She attended Leigh College and received the City and Guilds of London Institute Diploma; and then enhanced her education in Electrolysis and Esthetics. When Anglea was 20 years old, she moved back to Illinois and continued working in the skincare industry before opening up her own business, Simply Beautiful Day Spa, main-taining her focus on using healthy, non-inva-sive treatments and products to create healthy glowing skin. Over the course of 29 years of being in busi-ness, Angela wanted to incorporate wellness into the spa to be able to help clients with their mind and body; alleviating stress, and rejuvenating their spirit from the inside out. Simply Beautiful emerged into a Day Spa and Salt Therapy Room providing a wide va-riety of services including high-performance facial and body treatments, massage ther-apy, electrolysis, natural nail services, and salt therapy. From the very beginning, Angela knew she wanted to create a safe working environment for her staff. She offers flexible hours that can be changed and accommodated to life’s many changes. The majority of Simply Beau-tiful’s staff has been with us for over 15 years, and some since opening day. Angela volunteered for many years for the Look Good, Feel Better program at Edwards Hospital, donated a percentage of sales to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry, contributed to Noah’s Hope, hosts annual Client Apprecia-tion Events sponsoring different charities, and continues to make people feel Simply Beautiful.–Kristen Kucharski, Photos by Ruta Drulia Photography Angela Horejs Spa Owner Shares About Her Beautiful Day Spa that is Loved Locally– Simply Beautiful Day Spa in Downers Grove

by Mindy Kyle Photos SubmittedFlorence Ann Romano Build Your Village: A Guide to Finding Joy and Community in Every Stage of Life HINSDALE–During the Covid-19 pandemic, Hinsdale resident and personal growth strategist Florence Ann Romano felt the loss of her support systems, like so many others did. Our communities were ripped away from us. Once it was time for the world to reconnect, she noticed people seemed to be having a very hard time doing so. “I wanted everyone to know that no matter what type of village they were born into, they had the power to choose their people for a sup-port community,” says Florence Ann. “Everyone has heard the phrase ‘It takes a village,’ but how exactly do we find our village, and who is in it?” In her most recent book, Build Your Village: A Guide to Finding Joy and Community in Every Stage of Life, Florence Ann answers these questions, helping you to build an effective personal community. From identifying the six types of villagers needed to complete a fully functional village to what to do when you have lost your community, this book serves as a step-by-step guide complete with quizzes, gut-check questions, and action steps to find meaningful connections. A copy of Build Your Village can be found locally at the Bookstore of Glen Ellyn or Barnes and Noble Oakbrook. It is also available online at Amazon and all major retailers. KREMA COFFEE HOUSE IN PLAINFIELD ST. CHARLES–It complements pastries, toast and donuts. It pairs well with nestled reading nooks, the Sunday morning newspaper and conversation with friends. It’s suggested for first dates, morning boosts and awakening the senses. What is it? Coffee. Did you know 66% of Americans (surveyed in 2022) drink coffee every day? It’s officially America’s most popular beverage. Why the obsession? It’s part of our societal fabric. And if we examine the history of coffee, it’s actually quite ‘patriotic’ of us. What better way to protest the excessive tax on tea, than to redirect one's passion for drink? As the British say ... brilliant! Coffee became known as ‘America's National Drink’. Soon thereafter, coffee houses popped up and became gathering places … which still rings true today. Coffee lovers' brand loyalty is something that could spark the heav-iest of debates (rivaling that of a 90s boy band debate) - but, all-in- all there is a need for supporting local economic growth. And local coffee shops are lifelines in our communities. A place for study groups, meet-ups with friends, business interviews, celebrations and gatherings. Introducing: Krema Coffee House in Plainfield. KCH opened in 2017 and roasts high-quality, small-batch coffee. Its focus is local - milk, produce, syrups and honey are sourced lo-cally. They sell: coffee, tea, baked-in-house pastries, craft toasts, sandwiches and salads. Be sure to try the Brown Sugar Bacon Gouda breakfast sandwich, Honey Lavender Latte and Cinnamon Roll (Ronda Rousey approved!). This beloved coffee shop just ex-panded to Lockport in 2022, too. Enjoy the artwork, live music and unique lattes. Here’s to positive energy, shared experiences and fueled afternoon-pick-me-ups. Don't miss this pro-duction when it brings Cash's legacy to life at Drury Lane Theatre this fall. Ring of Fire is a foot-stompin' musical journey into the heart of true American icon - an icon who didn't always play by the rules. Her talented team continues to fill a niche in the west suburban home design marketplace by providing a full range of products to fit every budget while providing lifestyle-focused designs with top industry de-signers. As a proud member of the NKBA and KCMA, this women-owned establishment guarantees absolute satisfaction. “I just love what I do, so every day is a dream for me,” Catherine says. THE DESIGN PROCESS The talented design team will visit your home for a consultation, take measurements and look at the lifestyle components of the home and family; then create a custom masterpiece, incorporating the latest pro-ducts that meet the specific needs of each homeowner. The entire process is coordinated by West DuPage Cabinets & Granite providing total satisfaction and the end result is a stress-free process from design to build, including designer privilege discounts on appli-ances and fixtures. INDUSTRY TRENDS Catherine noted that the industry is always changing with future trends leaning towards larger islands, coffee bars and entertainment spaces, including a wine refrigerator in the kitchen and more features to accom-modate larger groups. She also says that natural woods and stains are trending for 2023. LEADING THE WAY One of Catherine’s most cherished projects was when her team de-signed and built a first floor master suite for a client whose husband had MS and could no longer walk up the stairs. “The improved quality of both of their lives was a gift to see!” shared Catherine. Stories like this are why the company has received many awards and accolades through the years including Best of the Best in Kitchen and Bath Remodeling 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, in addition to Glancer Magazine’s ‘Best of the Best’ Kitchen Designer for Kane County in 2021. RHON • AUGUST 2023Why We Love Our Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar Excursions NAPERVILLE–When the world is your oyster, you tend to live for the finer things in life. Other times you just want to say, “Shuck it” and spend some time at what the Real Housewives of Naperville refer to as “our favorite hidden gem”. Which just so happens to be full of oysters! Tucked in the plaza with Trader Joes, is the coolest seafood joint we’ve found. While you wouldn’t think of the Midwest as a hub for a hidden gem seafood joint, let us disillusion you! This spot is a MUST-TRY. A no-frills, all-about-the-seafood dive that even has its very own resident shark swimming above patrons! Shuckin’ Shack is a casual spot with a coastal vibe and excep-tional fare. They have a wide selection of both east and west-coast oysters, never-frozen fish, and all of their fried options are hand-battered, a rare offering these days. Mondays there are $1.25 oyster specials that have us religiously ordering dozens of trays to slurp. Other favorites include the fish and chips (available daily but on special every Friday), the lobster grilled cheese, the hand-battered fried clams (a summer menu stand-out), and Taco Tuesday (because who doesn’t love a taco?).72 • WESTERN SUBURBS • AUGUST 2023 • Glancer Magazine
And don’t forget to try the seafood boils – A classic! We even tried several of their famous oyster shooters along with some of their adventurous cocktails. And PLEASE order the hush puppies with your meal, you’ll thank us later. If seafood isn’t your thing, don’t worry, they have burgers, black bean burgers and fresh salads. With its delicious food and amazing staff, you’ll find yourself reg-ularly coming back (just like us!). The vibe here Is perfect for friends, families or even just a chill happy hour at the bar. There are always plenty of people to chat with or just watch a game while enjoying some killer food. www.theshuckinshack.com/location/naperville/ ABOUT REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NAPERVILLE You may have seen us around town, we are the fabulous four who be-lieve you can never be over-dressed for any occasion. PURPOSEFULLY DRIVEN Debbie’s community ties since 1995 gives her an enthusiastic edge when working with buyers and sellers. Her professional, down to earth approach with unwavering commitment to her clients, has enabled her to build up a vast network of referrals over the past 8 years. Attention to detail combined with an exceptional understanding of the mar-ketplace, genuine care for people, attentive listening skills, and dedication to fulfilling client’s goals is abundantly evident. “I LOVE people and the journey that takes us from A to Z. I believe we all have a story to tell, and that story begins at home,” Debbie shares. “For much of my adult life, I was known as a working stay-at-home PTA mom/wife, and was led to a new full time career as a 50 year-old single mom. It took perseverance, patience, and trust in the process to transition to Debbie Lendino, john greene Realtor, trusted advisor extraordinaire!” Debbie’s strong ability to negotiate and problem solve support her business that has been predominantly built on referrals, open homes, and networking. She is confident, yet humble; compassionate, yet persistent; knowledgeable, yet always learning. She relies on jgR’s tools to maintain a powerful post close process for her buyers and sellers and has an impressive social media presence that aids in marketing her listings. As Naperville and western suburban real estate continue to tilt toward a seller marker, home sales overall are heading toward stabilization. A slight cool is a good sign for Debbie’s buyers who are coming off the sidelines, even with risen interest rates. Creative financing and a decrease in com-petitive multiple offer scenarios will allow her buyers stronger purchasing power moving forward. But, we do need inventory and property values con-tinue to rise, just at a slower rate. NOW is a great time to market your home! “Utilization of john greene Realtor's technology is unmatched,” she says. “Always fresh, always something NEW, excellent!,” Debbie says. “I love being a part of an organization that supports each other - a cheerleader to new agents, mentoring small groups, collaborating with business partners, brainstorming with outside agents, networking, volunteering...these all align with my purpose!” As a top performing agent, it brings Debbie great joy to build on her referral base and provide an elite experience for her clients. Jack H. Marston II Melanoma Fund and 5K GLEN ELLYN–We are in the midst of summer, and it has been great getting out into the sunshine and soaking up some rays. However, I hope you have been using your sun-screen as we still need to be aware of the dangers that lurk in too much sun exposure. Be-sides sunburns and blisters, melanoma is a true villain. The incidence of melanoma is in-creasing at an alarming rate and is a threat to both adults and children; yet, research toward better treatment and a cure remains underfunded. The Jack H. Marston II Melanoma Fund organization has been working for twenty years to change that. Jack’s Fund was established in 2004 when melanoma took the life of devoted family man and dedicated chil-dren’s coach, Jack H. Marston II at the age of 47. “I did not want another family to go through what we ex-perienced,” says Sharon Marston, Jack’s widowed wife and the President and Founder of the organization. “When Jack was fighting, there was not much support for melanoma patients. We wanted to change that for families fighting this disease and increase public awareness. Metastatic melanoma is a very complex cancer, with early symptoms that are often mistaken for ‘nothing serious’.” Jack was an accomplished athlete and four-time Chi-cago Marathon participant, so it made sense to fund-raise around running. For 20 years, Jack’s Fund has organized the Annual “This Run’s for Jack” 5K Run/Walk at Ackerman Park in Glen Ellyn, where many families attend to memorialize a loved one lost to the disease. This year’s event will take place in the same park on Sunday, October 15th at 8 a.m. Jack’s Fund is the official charity for the Chicago, New York and Ber-lin Marathons and many marathon teams around the world have formed to support the organization’s efforts. “Last year, Jack’s Berlin Mar-athon team had a family from Australia and Hong Kong participating in memory of their mother,” says Sharon. This year, to recognize their 20th anniversary, Jack’s Fund has 20 community out-reach projects, including do-nating gallons of sunscreen to lifeguards and pools and setting up sunscreen stations at Ackerman Park, the splash pad, golf courses and pickleball courts. If you are runner, the 5K walk/run is a fun race to par-ticipate in while giving back to the cause. If you are a marathon runner…or want to be…you can choose to be on one of their marathon teams. If you are not a runner and would still like to support Jack’s Fund, they always need volunteers at the races and other events. For more information, visit them at www.jacksfund.org .
