Meet Swati Rayrikar, the Creator of Styled by Swati NAPERVILLE–Since coming to the U.S. from India in 1996, Swati has been a wife, mother, and preschool teacher, enjoying classical Indian dance, gardening, and volunteering her time at Maharashtra Mandal. Now a Naperville resident for the past 20 years, keeping the culture and tradition of her homeland remained extremely important to her; celebrat-ing many Hindu holidays, and enjoying the cultural experience of wearing a saree, which is a garment consisting of a length of cotton or silk elab-orately draped around the body, traditionally worn by women from South Asia. After helping a friend and her family members drape sarees for a special occasion, Swati was encouraged to share her talents and formed Styled by Swati in 2016 now that her two daughters are grown and pursuing their own careers. Through the art of saree draping, she has conveyed many cultural tradi-tions to her two daughters, and helped them preserve their heritage and teach them about their roots. “There is a huge difference between just wearing a saree and wearing a saree perfectly,” she says. “Each and every pleat of the saree matters, and if worn well, adds grace and poise. I follow a Bollywood saree draper, Dolly Jain who holds a record for being able to drape a saree in 350+ styles.” Organized, disciplined, and motivated, Swati is also now learning UI/UX designing through an online bootcamp course and hopes to soon land a job in the same field. Diversity, inclusion, and heritage will always be at the core of Swati’s heart. www.styledbyswati.weebly.comCOVER STORYGlancer Magazine • APRIL 2023 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 11

Glancer Magazine • APRIL 2023 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 13Meet Michele Fenton, Founder of Tupelo Lane Designs NAPERVILLE–Tupelo Lane Design Inc. is owned by Michele Fenton, an accomplished entrepreneur and mother of twin teen-age boys. The business originated as a small Etsy shop special-izing in the painting of windows and frames into chalkboards. Over time, Tupelo Lane Design Inc. expanded into craft shows and furniture refinishing, and eventually grew to custom cabinet refinishing as a Master Craftsman. Michele now leads an entire team of skilled artisans, primarily consisting of mothers and one brave father, who treat each client's home with the utmost care and respect. Tupelo Lane Design Inc. prides itself on providing clients with professional cabinetry refinishing services, utilizing only industrial wood coatings instead of latex or big box paint. According to Mi-chele, clients can expect to achieve a factory-like finish for only a quarter of the price of new cabinetry. In addition, Michele has observed a shift in kitchen trends to-wards warmer color schemes that incorporate subtle creams and warmer tones on both cabinets and countertops, as opposed to stark white with white countertops. Michele has also noted that desks are being removed from kitchens in favor of coffee bars. Michele's expertise in cabinet finishing is unparalleled, having trained under world-renowned cabinet finishers. She places great emphasis on proper preparation and uses only the highest quality industrial wood coatings, resulting in most kitchens being com-pleted within 3-5 days. www.tupelolanedesigns.com COVER STORY

As a new resident to Batavia, Brittany is immersing herself in local programs and charities to fundraise through the year, as well as donates all of her unsold garments to local women and children shelters. “Batavia instantly felt at home.” she says. “My husband and I felt this sense of com-munity and diversity which we craved.” The Batavia Boardwalk Shops boutique location has allowed her to meet so many customers and hear first hand feedback in the shop, prompting expanding offerings and furthering the decision to open her first brick and mortar store inside of the Wilson Street Mercantile at 222 East Wilson Street in Batavia. “I have met so many other business owners in the area and have really found my "boutique besties", the ladies I feel most comfortable sharing my struggles with, but also trusting with new ideas and support, including my new DIY bracelet bar and cus-tom orders.” Brittany shares. “Mainstreet Batavia has been an incredible support to me and cheered me on along the way, along with Jamie Saam from Start Something Studio.” Loyal to supporting small businesses, Brittany can be found meeting up at local events, The Quarry Pool, and nearby shops and restaurants. www.arlohendrix.com COVER STORY

Meet Amber Jirsa, North Suburbs Regional Teacher of the Year BATAVIA–Batavia High School English Teacher Amber Jirsa has been named North Suburbs Regional Teacher of the Year by the Illinois State Board of Edu-cation! In 2011, Amber received her Masters in Administration from Benedictine and began teaching at Bolingbrook High School, subsequently moving to Bata-via High School. She participates as a member of the district’s Equity Commit-tee and the Illinois Education Associa-tion's Human and Civil Rights Committee. She is also a facilitator for the National Education Association's Leaders for Just Schools Cohort, and the founder and sponsor of the Batavia High School Equity and Justice Committee. After using her voice in a public forum in support of her stu-dents, an inspired member of the community gifted a John Lewis flag to her because he was best known for saying, “Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.” Driven and compassionate, as a wife and mother to three children ages 14, 11 and 3, Amber is continually striving for balance both in and out of the class-room. “I am working on giving myself grace with this balance because I love my family, and I love the field of education,” she shares. “This is absolutely a work in progress, but I always try to make time for game night, trivia nights, puz-zles, travel, and reading.” Ultimately, Amber’s goals include an administrative role and earning her doctorate; however in the meantime, she will con-tinue to use her voice to create positive change, while aligning herself with like-minded supportive groups of co-workers, friends, and family. While going through some personal distressing moments in her life, she began to write down her whirlwind of feelings and channeled them into the plot of a novel. The Glimpse Gift is a witty and moving tale of a young woman, Hope Dempsey, who has lived most of her life with the gift to see two mi-nutes into the future during emotional poignant moments. One New Year’s Eve, at the age of 26, she meets the first of a succession of saints sent to her to mend present-day issues reflective of each par-ticular saint’s journey. With the help of friends in heaven and a handsome local antique dealer, Hope begins the journey of her divine mission. “I feel my book is incredibly relatable and hopeful to all that perse-vere,” says Mary, “as well as having a humorous and romantic touch.” To purchase The Glimpse Gift in Kindle, visit online at Ama-zon, Barnes and Noble, Lulu and Kobo. ALANIS MORISSETTE'S TONY-AWARD WINNING MUSICAL JAMES M. NEDERLANDER THEATRE • APRIL 2023 CHICAGO–Following its critically acclaimed 2018 American Repertory Theater world premiere run in Massachusetts and subsequent Broadway bow, Jagged Little Pill is touring the country! Praised for breaking the jukebox musical mold, the thrilling pop-rock tuner draws from the music and themes of seven-time Grammy Award-winning indie icon Alanis Morissette's 1995 seminal album of the same name, also including subsequent releases and even two specially written new songs! Its star-studded creative team doesn't stop there. With a book by Oscar winner Diablo Cody, the writer behind the Ellen Page-led smash hit feature film Juno, and direction by Tony-winning theater maker Diane Paulus (Finding Neverland, Pippin and Waitress), Jagged Little Pill was never going to be run-of-the-mill musical theater fare. In songs like 'You Oughta Know' and 'Ironic', Morisette's daredevil melodies, suggestive lyrics and artistic fearlessness wrap around uni-versal themes of pain, healing and empowerment, balancing emotional depth, heavy-hitting moments and black comedy with cathartic song-and-dance numbers to stunning effect. www.chicago-theater.com Jagged Little PillON STAGEGlancer Magazine • APRIL 2023 • WESTERN SUBURBS • 43

TRENDY TRAVELERAdditionally, the AAA Five-diamond re-sort features carefully curated archi-tecture and decor in every corner of the property, aimed at greet-ing guests with an eco-para-dise ideal for feeling harmonic with nature. Below are some ways guests at Hotel Xcaret Mexico can ex-perience an eco-conscious stay once they're ready to travel: Visit the beautiful cenotes, caves and playones incorpo-rated throughout the property. Be-fore entering the cenotes, guests must take part in a small ceremony where they ask the Aluxes (mischievous mythical creatures) for their blessing, offering guests a one-of-a-kind experience. Indulge in a treatment at the hotel's Muluk Spa. Its ex-tensive facilities include massage cabins nestled in stone caves of natural rock facing the river, sauna and steam rooms, hot and cold-water tubs and more. Guests staying at the property can choose from many options including the "Copal Purification" treatment, part of the spa's many "Mayan Journey" offerings inspired in an-cient techniques of the Mesoamerican natives and that use regional products such as honey and cocoa. Swing on Mayan inspired and made hammocks found in the balconies of every suite. Made of nylon or cot-ton, these carefully designed hammocks are made using wooden needles and frames, with each color representing a feeling based on Mexican folklore; while pink repre-sents happiness, yellow rep-resents hope. Stroll around Hotel Xcaret Mexico to appreciate the 120 one-of-a-kind whimsical soplones - or wind gods - that grace the walls of the hotel, made from wood by local family artisans in Oaxaca and inspired by the region's native huichol art. For those seeking to connect with nature through art, miniature versions are for sale at the hotel's store. At Hotel Xcaret Mexico, each design is strategically placed throughout the property which allows guests to connect with nature and appreciate the authentic culture of Mexico. In addition to its nature-centric offerings, Grupo Xcaret recently debuted its 360 Xafety protocol guide, which includes 1,300 actions that are being im-plemented to carefully disinfect the hotel, parks and tours to ensure the safety of visitors, guests, employees and collaborators. PURPOSEFULLY DRIVEN Debbie’s community ties since 1995 gives her an enthusiastic edge when working with buyers and sellers. Her professional, down to earth approach with unwavering commitment to her clients, has enabled her to build up a vast network of referrals over the past 8 years. Attention to detail combined with an exceptional understanding of the mar-ketplace, genuine care for people, attentive listening skills, and dedication to fulfilling client’s goals is abundantly evident. “I LOVE people and the journey that takes us from A to Z. I believe we all have a story to tell, and that story begins at home,” Debbie shares. “For much of my adult life, I was known as a working stay-at-home PTA mom/wife, and was led to a new full time career as a 50 year-old single mom. It took perseverance, patience, and trust in the process to transition to Debbie Lendino, john greene Realtor, trusted advisor extraordinaire!” Debbie’s strong ability to negotiate and problem solve support her business that has been predominantly built on referrals, open homes, and networking. She is confident, yet humble; compassionate, yet persistent; knowledgeable, yet always learning. She relies on jgR’s tools to maintain a powerful post close process for her buyers and sellers and has an impressive social media presence that aids in marketing her listings. As Naperville and western suburban real estate continue to tilt toward a seller marker, home sales overall are heading toward stabilization. A slight cool is a good sign for Debbie’s buyers who are coming off the sidelines, even with risen interest rates. Creative financing and a decrease in com-petitive multiple offer scenarios will allow her buyers stronger purchasing power moving forward. But, we do need inventory and property values con-tinue to rise, just at a slower rate. NOW is a great time to market your home! “Utilization of john greene Realtor's technology is unmatched,” she says. “Always fresh, always something NEW, excellent!,” Debbie says. “I love being a part of an organization that supports each other - a cheerleader to new agents, mentoring small groups, collaborating with business partners, brainstorming with outside agents, networking, volunteering...these all align with my purpose!” As a top performing agent, it brings Debbie great joy to build on her referral base and provide an elite experience for her clients. Her talented team continues to fill a niche in the west suburban home design marketplace by providing a full range of products to fit every budget while providing lifestyle-focused designs with top industry de-signers. As a proud member of the NKBA and KCMA, this women-owned establishment guarantees absolute satisfaction. “I just love what I do, so every day is a dream for me,” Catherine says. THE DESIGN PROCESS The talented design team will visit your home for a consultation, take measurements and look at the lifestyle components of the home and family; then create a custom masterpiece, incorporating the latest pro-ducts that meet the specific needs of each homeowner. The entire process is coordinated by West DuPage Cabinets & Granite providing total satisfaction and the end result is a stress-free process from design to build, including designer privilege discounts on appli-ances and fixtures. INDUSTRY TRENDS Catherine noted that the industry is always changing with future trends leaning towards larger islands, coffee bars and entertainment spaces, including a wine refrigerator in the kitchen and more features to accom-modate larger groups. She also says that natural woods and stains are trending for 2023. LEADING THE WAY One of Catherine’s most cherished projects was when her team de-signed and built a first floor master suite for a client whose husband had MS and could no longer walk up the stairs. “The improved quality of both of their lives was a gift to see!” shared Catherine. Remarkable Rug Making I was walking through Fox Valley Mall and out of the corner of my eye I had a sudden flashback of Latch Hooking on my twin bed in my childhood home circa 1978. I recalled the hundreds of tiny pieces of yarn and the patience it took to complete a square image that would eventually be transformed to a pillow or wall hanging. I just had to take a closer look. Upon entering the store, I quickly realized this was not your mama’s latch hook; but the latest Tik Tok craze of tufting your own rug creation using a tufting gun that automated the process by feeding the yarn through a hollow needle, that penetrates the stretched cloth backing for a modifiable length to create a pre-selected image. There were kids, teens, young adults all seemingly tufting ef-fortlessly creating one-of-a- kind personalized rugs. In no time, I gathered a group of friends to try it ourselves. We came with our images in mind and traced them to a cloth. Then we were given step by step instructions and a hands-on learn-ing experience to gain the confidence in tufting our own rugs. We got to choose the image, choose the colors, the size, and take our time to personalize the details. MOM’S little black book70 • WESTERN SUBURBS • APRIL 2023 • Glancer Magazine

Young Hearts for Life WESTERN SUBURBS–Every so often a news story emerges about a young healthy athlete collaps-ing on the field or court and going into cardiac arrest. More than 60 young adults die of Sudden Car-diac Death each week in the United States; that’s more than 3,000 per year. A simple non-in-vasive ECG screening can iden-tify 70% of cardiac conditions that can cause Sudden Cardiac Death, while a sports or pre-par-ticipation physical will only identify approximately 4%. Seeing the need to increase detection at a young age, cardiologist Dr. Jo-seph Marek founded Young Hearts for Life, a free ECG screening program that serves all students (not just athletes) ages 12-24. It is now the largest screening program in the United States. The organization also educates the community about SCD as well as pro-vides a support group, Gold Hearts, for family members who have lost a child or sibling to SCD. Denise Arenz, Program Director for Young Hearts for Life (YH4L) out of Oakbrook Terrace, first got involved with YH4L when she volunteered at her local high school during the screening program, inspired to sup-port because her friend’s son died of SCD. “This pro-gram truly saves lives,” says Denise. “More than 290,000 students in the Chicagoland area have been screened by YH4L and more than 3,100 have been identified with a previously undiagnosed cardiac con-dition.” YH4L is also in the final stages of development for an Emergency Action Plan to help schools/trainers effectively prepare and manage cardiac emergencies. YH4L works with numerous west suburban high schools to offer this free service, including – just to name a few: Naperville Districts 203 and 204, all Plainfield high schools, West Aurora, East Au-rora, Batavia, Geneva, Benet Academy, Downers Grove North/South and Oswego. They are always looking for volunteers to help run these screening ses-sions, most need more than 75 volunteers per shift, many of them parents of the students. Keep an eye out for the next screening at your student’s high school to volunteer or visit their website for other opportunities. What Is PRP? Platelet-rich plasma is a substance that your functional medicine provider derives from your blood. Research suggests that PRP en-courages cell repair and soft tissue healing. Concentrated platelets from your own blood are injected into an injured joint or your skin through controlled injury, like microneedling, to take advantage of your body’s own natural growth factors and healing capabilities. The growth factors in plasma control inflammation and healing, thus rejuvenating your skin or decreasing pain and inflammation in your joints. Essentially, PRP helps your tissue heal itself. PRP is derived directly from your own blood. We’ll take a blood sample from you and run it through a centrifuge. This centrifuge separates your red blood cells, white blood cells, and plasma. We will then take the concentrated plasma and inject it into your joints or onto the controlled injury on your skin, whichever is appropriate for your treatment. Microneedling with PRP The amazing thing about the human body is its incredible ability to heal itself. PRP capitalizes on your body’s innate ability to thrive under the right conditions. Health optimization isn’t all supplements, nutrition, and hormone therapy; sometimes, the best way to opti-mize your health is by looking at what’s already inside you. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is sometimes called “liquid gold” be-cause of its powerful restorative capabilities. If you want to optimize your wellness by harnessing your body’s natural ability to heal itself, call Peak Health Institute today to schedule your joint injection or microneedling with PRP near Naperville today!
